Join Treasure Island Museum and Port Chicago Alliance for a powerful commemoration of Port Chicago Remembrance Day, a signature event of Port Chicago Weekend.
This program will explore the aftermath of the 1944 Port Chicago disaster, focusing on the historic trial of 50 Black American Sailors who were wrongfully charged with mutiny for standing up against dangerous and discriminatory working conditions. Through talks, archival material, and community reflections, we’ll examine how the trial became a turning point in the struggle for civil rights in our nation.
This event invites the public to reflect on the courage of the Sailors and the continuing relevance of their fight for justice.
